Chanel muse on cooking, eating, and feeling healthy

British model Daisy Lowe dispelled stereotypes about hungry, size zero fashionistas in an interview with New York Magazine’s The Cut.

Lowe became interested in cooking and entertaining after buying a home in London when she became ill due to her strenuous modeling schedule, an impressive resume including the titles of muse to Chanel’s Karl Lagerfeld and campaign model for Marc by Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton, and Burberry, to new a few.

She now proudly cites Bolognese, roasts, and vegan baked goods as some of her favorite things to make for friends in her kitchen, referencing her use of raw chocolate with exotic ingredients such as goji berries, mesquite powder, and agave.

Technically a larger size for the modeling community (she is a U.K. size 8-10), Lowe has been an ardent supporter of eating healthily in a world that so often supports not eating at all. Refusing to deprive herself, Lowe cites mindful moderation and balance as key to feeling good about oneself and achieving a sense of positive body image. A model that eats chocolate and loves to cook? We’re sold.

Cut the Carbs!

Post-prandial somnolence (colloquially known as a carb coma) is that state of sleepiness that descends after an overload of high glycaemic-index (GI) carbohydrates.

Tori Haschka is a Sydney-born food writer who used to load up on white carbs such as bread, potatoes, pasta and rice. She started experimenting with so-called smart carbs (low-GI foods) about six years ago after noticing that consuming classic comfort foods left her feeling fatigued, lethargic and lacking in energy. Cut the Carbs! is the result of that experiment.

Rather than ditching carbs altogether, Haschka advocates avoiding white carbs as much as possible and focusing on protein-rich grains and pulses (smart carbs), such as quinoa, chia seeds and linseed, as well as pulses. ''I'm not about to suggest some kind of slavish regime. Cut the Carbs! is about getting a little cannier about the way you cook and helps you get more creative in the kitchen.

''It's easy to use white carbs as a culinary crutch, but they should not be everyday, every meal foods,'' she says.

Spice up your new smart-carb existence with chickpea bombs, white-bean colcannon with sticky braised beef or a neon-green bowl of coriander and chicken soup plump with quinoa and green peas.

Cut the Carbs, by Tori Haschka, is published by Quadrille (RRP $39.95)

Healthy Every Day

Despite being written by My Kitchen Rules judge Pete Evans, who has opened seven restaurants during his time as a chef and restaurateur, Healthy Every Day is not too cheffy for novices.

While those passionate about the paleo way will appreciate Evans' adaptation of recipes inspired by this way of eating, there are also gluten-free and dairy-free treats that will please those with such dietary restrictions.

Evans acknowledges that the paleo-inspired approach to food does not suit everyone, but he hopes the nutritious recipes in the book will inspire those stuck in a rut to change the way they cook and eat.

''I have no problem with critics of the paleo way of life … I stand behind it because it works. Paleo is a sustainable way of life for people and also for the future of our planet,'' he says.

A burger with the lot, and crispy kale chips, may arm-twist home cooks into modelling their meals around paleo recipes. Evans says they ''feature loads of fresh vegies, nuts and seeds, sustainable seafood and meat''.

Sweetness & Light

International model Daisy Lowe is on a mission to convince the gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan and refined-sugar-free among us that they can have their cake and eat it too.

Many of the recipes in this book are not 100 per cent guilt-free sweet treats, as there are still recipes that contain butter or coconut oil or cream, but the book also has lighter alternatives aimed at seducing the sweet-toothed who love desserts.

As a model, Lowe is renowned in Britain for backing the ''Fit Not Thin'' campaigns.

The high points in her book are

rose-poached pears, raw chocolate mousse and lemon-and-lime scented granita. The breakfast granola will also satisfy goody two-shoes.

Sweetness & Light, by Daisy Lowe, is published by Quadrille, (RRP $29.95).

Eat Yourself Beautiful

Lee Holmes is a SOLE sister. That is, she supports sustainable, organic, local and ethical foods. The award-winning blogger also champions a more sensible approach to eating, rather than denying specific foods altogether.

Holmes developed her approach of ''eating for inner health'' after being diagnosed with fibromyalgia and changing her own unhealthy eating habits.

''Throw out the fad diets and adopt a healthy way of eating, following the 80:20 rule - eating well 80 per cent of the time and giving yourself some wriggle room for 20 per cent of the time,'' she says.

''The recipes in the book are all about quality, freshness and nutrition.''

Beyond the quick vegetable dishes such as broccolini with garlic and chilli and cauliflower dip are satisfying soups, such as creamy leek and parsley, and saucy dishes for meat-lovers, such as butter chicken.

Expect cameos from the usual suspects, those rock stars of the healthy food worlds: chia, quinoa and kale, and blurbs that spell out the health benefits of various foods.

Eat Yourself Beautiful, by Lee Holmes is published by Murdoch Books (RRP $35).

Peaches’ pal Daisy Lowe’s ‘getting a lot closer’ to her widower Thomas

Model Daisy Lowe has been spending a lot of time with late friend Peaches Geldof&rsquos widower Thomas Cohen.

Thomas, 25, and Daisy, 26, have become close friends after Peaches tragically died in April 2014 and appear to have found comfort in each other.

The young widower, who has two sons by Peaches, holidayed in Miami with Daisy over New Year.

They were joined by pals including Rita Ora, 25, Nick Grimshaw, 31, Alexa Chung, 32, and Peaches&rsquo sister, Pixie, 25, who is great pals with Daisy.

Sources say Daisy has really helped Thomas see the light after the tragedy:

&lsquoThe past two years have been incredibly difficult for Tom,&rsquo a source told the Daily Mirror.

&lsquoHe is still so young, yet he has been bringing up two children on his own.

&lsquoHe has known Daisy for years, but they are a lot closer since the holiday in Miami.

&lsquoIt&rsquos been great for Thomas&rsquos friends to see him looking happy again.&rsquo

Daisy has a long list of celebrity boyfriends, previously dating former Doctor Who star Matt Smith, 33, musician Mark Ronson, 40, and Ronnie Wood&rsquos son Ty, 32.

Daisy, who is the daughter of fashion designer Pearl Lowe and Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale, spoke to InStyle magazine of her friend&rsquos passing.

&lsquo&ldquoI think about her a lot,&rsquo she said of Peaches.

&lsquoShe&rsquos very missed. Very loved. And I hope that she&rsquos happy&hellip happy up there.&rsquo

Daisy added that she still speaks to her pal: &lsquoIt&rsquos funny, I end up kind of talking to her a bit.

&lsquoI still think I see her, or songs will come on and I will go, &ldquoI swear that you just put that on&rdquo.&rsquo

Louise Redknapp shares cryptic Instagram as Jamie appears to move on

Louise Redknapp has been rather quiet over the past few months following her split from her footballer hubby, Jamie.

The singer ended her 19 year marriage late last year, before the couple finalised their divorce in January.

Both parties have remained tight lipped about the whole situation, with them both eager to move on with their lives.

It looks like Jamie is already moving on romantically and has been linked to model Julia Restoin Roitfeld since the end of his marriage.

Amidst the rumours that Jamie has moved on, Louise took to Instagram to share a very cryptic message.

&lsquoIt&rsquos OK if you fall down and lose your spark. Just make sure that when you get back up, you rise as the whole damn fire,&rsquo the image read.

She also captioned the post, [email protected] I saw this the other day on ur feed and love it #fabqoute x #thankyou&rsquo

The post received likes from her celebrity friends, including Tess Daly and Caroline Flack, as well as a flood of supportive comments from Louise&rsquos fans.

Jamie has been liked to model Julia Restoin Roitfeld, the daughter of fomer Vogue Paris editor-in-chief, Carine Roitfeld.

True Blue @burberry You make good suits!

A post shared by Julia Restoin Roitfeld (@juliarestoinroitfeld) on May 10, 2018 at 3:14pm PDT

Julia, who is currently in London, has been seeing Jamie since March, according to the Daily Mail.

Jamie and Louise&rsquos divorce came as a shock to fans after the couple seemed so in love after almost two decades of marriage. The couple share tow sons, Charley and Beau.

Following her stint on Strictly Come Dancing and forming a strong bond with model Daisy Lowe, Louise got her confidence back and restarted her performing career.

8 Oddly Attractive Guys, And Why You Love Them. Especially Guy #1.

Strangely hot dudes. There are male celebs that we love to ogle, but our moms would say “ew, he’s so ugly.” Yeah. It’s that guy who isn’t traditionally handsome, but who has a certain je ne sais quoi that makes us weak in the knees. AND, we’re not the only ones. Here you go, 8 oddly attractive, hot guys and the women who love them.

8. John Leguizamo

Whether it was his dance moves in Summer of Sam or his delicious drag queen in Too Wong Foo Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar, Johnny Legs is a force to be reckoned with. A fantastic film and stage actor, Leguizamo packs a punch that can’t be denied.

Who agrees? His wife, Justine Maurer. Here’s a pick of the happy couple:

7. Matt Smith

The Eleventh Doctor on Doctor Who, and, arguably, the favorite, Matt Smith and his Muppet-like adorableness won the hearts of many a lady in his 49 episodes of the British sci-fi drama. He’s precious, for sure, but those ears, that nose, those lips. Taken apart it’s all a mess, but put together it’s hotness for sure. Smith seems to be single at the moment, but he had a 3-year fling with model Daisy Lowe:

6. Adam Driver

Best known for the HBO series Girls, Adam Driver is such a contradiction of sensation that it’s hard to watch him. A fantastic actor with a lot of beautiful qualities, the culmination is beastly and…well, uncomfortably strange.

His wife, Joanne Tucker, obviously appreciates the good qualities.

6. Adrien Brody

Oscar winner and hip-hop enthusiast, Adrien Brody is gorgeous in his own way, but his pronounced features make him look kinda like an alien. But HOT like HAWT. His girlfriend. Lara Lieto, seems to think so too.

5. Pablo Schreiber

Yeah, He’s Pornstache on Orange is the New Black. A role that is repugnant in almost every way. BUT, he’s hot. But not. With a great body. Yeah, this writer said it.

Pablo’s marriage of seven years split in 2014 and he dated Dancing With the Stars vet Karina Smirnoff, but it seems he’s on the market. Ladies?

4. Russell Brand

He’s played everything from Arthur to a sober, overly-enlighted rockstar. He posts socially conscious videos on the internet. We want to think he’s ridiculous, but he has some good points. He’s actually most traditionally handsome guy on this list, but his presentation makes you wonder. Katy Perry wasn’t fooled…at least not for a while.

3. Sachen Baron Cohen

Borat, Ali G, whatever. This versatile actor can be unattractive, handsome, cute, and…yes – hot

His beautiful wife, Ilsa Fisher, thinks so too.

2. Daniel Craig

We know, we know. It’s James Bond. But, dude is seriously craggy. But, Rachel Weisz seems to think he’s awesome enough.

1. Norman Reedus

WE KNOW! How dare we say Darryl Dixon is anything by the hottest hotness that ever hotted? Truth is, he is. But there’s some ugly in there too, which makes him all the more drool-worthy.

The point is, all these fine actors are beautiful and talented. And as for Norman? He has a child with the supermodel Helena Christensen. And now it’s rumored that he’s dating Emily Kinney, who played Beth on The Walking Dead. See, friends? Sometimes TV “shipping” does come true.

Daisy Lowe launches cookery book

British model Daisy Lowe, who recently found out she is intolerant to wheat and dairy, has launched a cookbook for fellow sufferers.

British model Daisy Lowe has shared her love of sweet treats by writing a healthy dessert-themed cookery book.

The brunette beauty, daughter of Powder star Pearl Lowe and rocker Gavin Rossdale, has put together her favourite recipes in Sweetness & Light, a guide to creating guilt-free treats with natural sweeteners.

Lowe reveals the project came about after she discovered she suffers from wheat and dairy intolerance, and she admits her life has improved since she changed her diet.

"Recently I also found out that I am intolerant to wheat and dairy. A few of the healthy substitutions I've made for wheat, dairy and sugar in these recipes will be new to you, but you will easily be able to find them in health food shops and online.

"My body feels so much healthier and it works better. I have more energy, I sleep better, I get sick less often. I am feeding myself, not starving or depriving myself of the sweet things I love. I wanted to share these recipes so you can do the same, and love yourself from the inside out."
